Minor League Baseball in New England

by DickH

While the weather certainly hasn’t been conducive to baseball, we are well into the second month of the season. This past Sunday, the Boston Globe travel section did a feature on minor league baseball in New England.  I was surprised to find that there are ten minor league baseball teams in New England.  Here they are:

For bonus points, what was the initial name chosen for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats?  It never appeared on a uniform on the field, but it did make it onto some paraphernalia.

  1. The New Hampshire Primaries . . . a much better name.

  2. That’s easy- NH Primaries. Also thier proposed uniforms would have said ‘Maries across the chest. Colors would have been maroon and white if memory serves correctly.

  3. The “Primaries” is correct.

Since we’re talking baseball, did you know that two former pro baseball players are buried in Lowell Cemetery? If you’d been on one of our tours you would know all about that.

  4. You always schedule them when I’m working or running a race..

  5. While the Primaries never actually took the field under that name, the uniforms did as the Fisher Cats have held at least one, but I believe a few “throwback” nights wearing the “would have been” original team uniforms. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=20100708&content_id=12069124&vkey=pr_t463&fext=.jsp&sid=t463
