The “Winged Victory” statue which sits in front of Lowell City Hall, alongside the Ladd and Whitney Monument. The statue was donated to the city in 1867 by James C. Ayer to celebrate the Union victory in the Civil War.

New ‘On the Road’ Film to Compete for Top Prize at Cannes
The film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic novel “On the Road” by Director Walter Salles has been selected to compete for the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival in France in May, according to the NYTimes. Read about it in Arts Briefly.
