UMass Lowell’s Office of the Provost cordially invites the community to a special event on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. in Moloney Hall at University Crossing featuring Christo Brand, author of “Mandela: My Prisoner, My Friend.”

Brand was Nelson Mandela’s prison guard on South Africa’s Robben Island for 12 years, during which the two developed a strong bond. The book tells the story of their remarkable and unlikely friendship, which lasted through Mandela’s release from prison, ascension to the South African presidency and his death last year. Brand will discuss the book and sign copies, which will be available for purchase through the River Hawk Shop.

The event is open to students, faculty, staff and the public. Moloney Hall is located on the second floor of University Crossing (220 Pawtucket Street, Lowell).
