April 7 Lighting Display Cancelled at Lower Locks Canal Complex; Downtown Lowell First Thursdays Series Will Open as Planned

Due to a forecast of a 100 percent chance of rain tomorrow, Thursday, April 7, the Lowell Heritage Partnership cancelled the planned special lighting display at the Lower Locks canal complex in connection with the opening of the Downtown Lowell First Thursdays art and business series.

Related activities by Middlesex Community College and UMass Lowell on the plazas around the Lower Locks canal complex have also been postponed until a date to be announced later.

Galleries, shops, and restaurants participating in the First Thursdays series will be open from 5 pm to 9 pm as publicized, so there will be plenty to do downtown, rain or shine. The editor of this blog, Dick Howe Jr., will be at the National Park Visitor Center at 6 pm to meet people who want to go on his special Lowell Walks tour tomorrow evening. Bring an umbrella—if the rain is too heavy, Dick will give an impromptu Lowell “Talks” in the Visitor Center for those who show up.
