The 29th Annual CTI / Lowell Farmers’ Market had a Grand-Opening ribbon-cutting today with the help of Lowell Mayor Ed Kennedy. The Farmers’ Market operates on Fridays through mid-October (except during the Lowell Folk Festival) on JFK Plaza adjacent to Lowell City Hall from 1-6pm. With offerings of fresh, locally-grown, seasonal produce from many area farms and small growers, fresh bakery products, specially-baked goods for canines, local honey products, home-made candies, flowers and plants, specialty items like fruit drinks and popcorn and more, it’s attractive and accessible for walkers, downtown denizens and commuters. Look for hand-made pottery, literature about good nutrition and programs like WIC as well as brochures about the Lowell National Historical Park programs. Each week has a theme or food demonstrations. Today Mayor Ed Kennedy and CTI Board Chair Glenn Goldman assisted Connie Martin in making zucchini fritters served “benedict” style with Canadian bacon and an egg – with or without a sauce…. a tasting and the recipe was available. Check it out! BTW – eligible seniors can get food vouchers for use at the Market.
